About TaiChiQuan 关于太极拳

TaiChiQuan 太极拳, is one form of Chinese martial arts which consists of a sequence of dynamic movements that adhere to Chinese Yin Yang philosophy. The art is practiced for health benefits and also can be used for defending purpose. Taichi routines 套路 are usually typified by gentle and slow movements but some schools have secondary forms that are of fast pace, fast jumps, leaps and explosive energy releases. One such school is the Chen Style taichiquan.

During practice, the body remains relaxed with the practitioners’ consciousness, breathing and actions all closely connected. These unique features enhance benefits to health and fitness. Taichiquan can be practiced by anyone regardless of age and sex.

There are five major styles/school of Taichi namely
Chen style (陳氏) of Chen Wangting (1580–1660)
Yang style (楊氏) of Yang LuChan (1799-1872)
Wu (martial) style (武氏) of Wu YuHsiang (1812-1880)
Sun style (孫氏) of Sun LuTang (1861–1932)
Wu style (吳氏) of Wu ChuanYu (1834–1902) and his son Wu ChienChuan (1870-1942)

Grandmaster Huang Sheng Shyan originated the style/school Huang taichiquan .( 黃式太极拳).

Each taichi style (school) may have its own subtle emphasis on various taichi principles and methods and there are also variations within each style. Some style focus on health maintenance, while others focus on the martial arts aspect.

The intensity of taichi varies depending on the form or style. Some forms of taichi are fast-paced and exerting more than others, but in general most form are gentle and suitable for everyone.
